Kit Kat Cake

February 2, 2014

This was a fast and super cute way to decorate my daughters birthday cake. (She helped too!) We used 37 king sized kit kat bars to go around an 8" cake. I put plenty of frosting in between the cake layers because I only wanted to use a crumb coat on the outside of the cake, just enough that the bars would stick but not slip. (The ribbon is just decoration, not support.) As we cut it we just asked "do you want a 1, 2 or 3 kit kat size?" I love her sweet face! ... VIEW POST

Eagle Scout Cake

February 1, 2014

The Eagle Scout Badge on top has cardboard inside for structure. The flag took a couple tries, to get it to drape on the cake I had to place it while it was nice and flexible but that also meant parts of it dropped off (!!!) so I ended up putting a solid fondant backing so it had more support. (My favorite fondant recipe is HERE.) For the cake below I found it was easier to cut strips of red and white fondant, roll the edges under just a bit and lay them side by side (spraying a little water to ... VIEW POST

Blue Ruffle Cake

January 29, 2014

This was for a photo shoot for a 1 year old! I love this ruffle style. These ruffles are very time consuming to apply but the look is just so fun. When I was applying the ruffles I just colored the fondant as I went. The next time I will color the fondant in balls ahead of time to make sure I have the color progression I want, to me this cake feels like it could use one more shade between the white and first blue ruffles. I have also done this on a large 3 tier wedding cake and it is such a ... VIEW POST

For great tips on how to Prep and make Perfect Cake Pops you can find more posts under "Cake Pops." For these cake pops I used the swirl technique (found under "Camo Cake Pops") and then made my own little fondant cutter because I didnt want to cut out 100 pentagons and hexagons! ... VIEW POST

Batman Cupcakes

January 10, 2014

These were a huge hit for a little Batman fan! To make these I used a circle cutter to make long ovals for the jaw, making it over exaggerated and I love how it looked! (I used Homemade Fondant for this- See Tricks of the Trade for recipe.) To make the black mask I traced the outline I wanted on wax paper and then used Duffs black fondant because it is impossible to color homemade fondant black with gel. ... VIEW POST

Coral Rose

January 8, 2014

This cake is one of my favorites. ANYONE can make it. Its not meant to be perfect, in fact that is what I love about it. Go here for STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS. You can free hand the roses or after you crumb coat the cake, use a circle cutter and gently mark the cake to help space your roses. Happy Baking- or I guess I should say Happy Frosting! ...
