I made these little flowers with the same technique I use to make chocolate roses found under "Tricks of the Trade." Once I had rolled a rose I snipped off the bottom with scissors (the flat end helped it stand up) and then sat it in a green fondant stem. I just barely sprayed them with Duff brand edible gold spray. ... VIEW POST
German Chocolate
I really really love German Chocolate Cake. I even love German CAROB cake (yes that is what I was fed growing up!) And as much as I love the Coconut Pecan frosting and could (and do) eat it with a spoon I just feel like GC Cake needs a little something so it isn't quite so sweet and rich. I started adding a thin layer of whipped coconut filling (2 cups heavy whipping cream, one 3oz package of instant coconut pudding, blend until it starts to thicken) and I got so many raves that now I add it ... Solar System Cake
To make this cake I used Rice Crispy Treats for all the planets and for the Sun. To attach the "beams" to the Sun I folded the triangles just a little on the bottom to give me some surface to attach them with. For the RC recipe I use and for all my favorited decorating techniques see "Tricks of the Trade." ... VIEW POST
White Chocolate Popcorn Cupcakes
To make the "movie ticket" I used homemade fondant (recipe under "Tricks of the Trade") but the cupcakes really made it fun! To make the chocolate popcorn I used one 12 oz bag white chocolate chips, and 2 bags of movie theater popcorn. Super easy. Just pop the popcorn and put it in a large bowl after carefully removing ALL the unpopped kernels. Melt the chocolate (I put a TBL of crisco to help keep it smooth) and immediately poor it over the popcorn mixing until distributed. I let it harden then ... VIEW POST
Modeling Chocolate
Easy and Fast Molding Chocolate 1 bag Wiltons Melts (any color!! even more fun!) 1/3 cup light corn syrup In the microwave (I prefer a glass bowl) melt the melts until melted. (How's that for a sentence!) Add 1/3 corn syrup and stir quickly, you will see the chocolate start to firm up almost immediately, keep stirring until completely combined. Place in a plastic bag and let sit over night. Sometimes the chocolate seems a little oily right after I mix it but it usually absorbs overnight. If I ... VIEW POST
How to Frost a Rustic Cake
Getting this "messy" rustic look takes some technique beyond just slapping on the frosting :). To get the cake to stay even I found I had to have a nice solid frosting base but when I tried using a room temperature cake it became too messy and uneven as I worked the frosting so I frosted my cake with the Smooth Frosting technique (didn't have to be exactly perfect) then chilled the cake completely so that when I started "spackeling" on more frosting it held its shape. I used my small spatula and ... VIEW POST
