My favorite things about this cake you cant really see in the picture, I love the little black fondant mickey mouse heads around the bottom with the other fondant balls. To make this cake I traced the shape I wanted onto wax paper and then used it as a guide to cut my fondant. The most time consuming part was going over the outline with black fondant that I rolled into a tiny strand. See "Tricks of the Trade" or go HERE for my favorite fondant recipe. ... VIEW POST
Square Yellow Cake
To make the base I did a smooth frosting base and then used Homemade Fondant for the white stripes. Go HERE for my favorite Fondant recipe and HERE for smoothing tips. To make the Bow on Top of the cake I tinted Wiltons white fondant so harden in place. The round part of the bow I let dry around a rolled length of saran wrap before placing it on the cake and adding the rest of the "ribbon." ... VIEW POST
Had a Bad Day.
I found this picture and I don't remember seeing it before, it was taken right before we went to the hospital that day. I just had a really good cry because looking at this photo I see now how sick Ben was at that moment, and how close he came to not making it back home with us. I used fondant to make the larger "pearls" and added different sized silver dragees. I painted the fondant pearls with shimmering pearl and silver dust (Wilton Pearl Dust, Silver-0.05 Ounce (1,4g).) To get the darker metallic silver I tinted the fondant grey first. To learn to make fondant for these pearls look under "Tricks of the Trade" or go ... VIEW POST

John Deere Cake
Cake Toppers make any cake more exciting! And using RICE CRISPY treats as a base like I did here really allows you to make almost any shape. This has a rice crispy base and is covered with molding chocolate. To make the molding chocolate hold its shape a little better I added just a little bit of white fondant. Roughly 1 part fondant to 6 parts molding chocolate. (HERE is my favorite fondant recipe, and HERE is my tutorial for Modeling Choc.) The key to this tractor was making the little details ...
