How to Marble Cake Pops

February 14, 2013

These take a few extra steps but are so delicious! To get the marbled look I first roll out separate chocolate cake balls, and then vanilla cake balls. I cut each one in half and then gently blend one of each together. Rolling them separately first helps prevent having to over-roll and over-blend the two flavors when you put them together. Definite crowd pleaser!! See "Tricks to Perfect Pops" for more cake pop helps. ... VIEW POST

Hunger Games Cake!

February 10, 2013

Because I am such a fan of the books and the movie I was excited to work on this cake! I have seen flat versions of this but I wanted to really make the mocking jay pin stand out so I did it 2D. I used a skewer to make the arrow, just covered it in fondant. To tint the gold Fondant I used a ratio of 10 parts yellow, 3 parts orange and 1 part red. This gave it a nice golden color. After it had dried a little I set it on wax paper and used Duff Decorating Cake Graffiti, Gold, 1.5-Ounce touching it ... VIEW POST

Owl Cake & Cupcakes

February 10, 2013

I love the owl craze! As usual I turned to my trusted wax paper to first outline the own. I did it in 3 separate parts, the body, the wings and head, and the eyes. I used my homemade fondant for all the decorations, go HERE for the complete recipe. ... VIEW POST

Baby Belly Cake

February 9, 2013

This cake was made with 10" and 6" rounds, the 6" rounds I ended up cutting down a little but its still a very buxom cake :) I know some people make their zebra striped fondant before they place it on the cake but I like to add my stripes after so they are just where I think they should be. I also used Homemade MM fondant (go HERE for the recipe) because I did not need this fondant to dry stiffly and it tastes much better. To make the ribbon I used this fondant roller cutter to make the little ... VIEW POST

Chocolate Leaf Cupcakes

February 7, 2013

These were such a fun project, I will have to try and find my "making of" pictures but basically we (my daughter was in on this project) melted 3 colors of Melties in bowls, brown, red and yellow. (I didn't do orange because I knew the red and yellow would blend to make that color anyway.) We used little bowls because the chocolate needed to be rewarmed in the microwave every few minutes. For our template we found green leaves in all different shapes, and washed and dried them. We then just ... VIEW POST

Rubix Cube Cake

February 5, 2013

I used THIS homemade fondant recipe for all the colors except the black and red, trying to tint those colors makes the fondant gooey so I use the Duff brand. I covered each side with a square of black instead of trying to cove the whole (huge) cake at one time. Keeping the cake cool is KEY. Once it gets too warm it will start to get indentations from the pressure of smoothing fondant over and over. ... VIEW POST
