This was a hot theme this fall! Bowling parties are a lot of fun. To make the pins on the cake above I used Wiltons fondant instead of homemade fondant because I wanted them to dry quickly and really hold their shape on their own. To make the "alley" I make brown fondant and then added a bit of white fondant that I mixed ALMOST completely in, leaving a bit of a marbled look for the wood grain, then used a ruler and pressed gently for the lines. Big Flowers Wedding Cake
This Wedding Cake was simple and classy. The big fondant flowers were basic roses that I made and dried layer by layer. But then after placing them on the cake I added a few loose petals to add one more layer of fullness. I used Wiltons Fondant with some Gum Paste powder rolled in Wilton Gum Paste Mix to make sure they dried faster and more firm. I don't love working with straight Gum Paste because the left over product always dries to hard to reuse and so it ends up wasted. It also gets too ... VIEW POST
Tangled Cupcakes
These were for two different Tangled Parties and went with Tangled Cakes. I loved making the different items, especially the Chameleon! To make the crowns I bought some pipe ribbon at home depot, its a roll of bendable metal about an inch wide. (This works great for any odd shape, like the pentagon on a soccer ball! Go HERE for more details.) I used metal cutters to cut a strip and then just kept crimping my corners with a butter knife until I had the shape I wanted. I cut out my "crown strip" ... VIEW POST
Winnie the Pooh
When I make figures for my cakes and cupcakes I don’t like to use solid fondant or gum paste because they become SO heavy. I like to make a rice crispy base that will be hard enough to support but not as dense. And for some reason kids think they are the most fun to eat!
