Big Flowers Wedding Cake

February 4, 2013

This Wedding Cake was simple and classy. The big fondant flowers were basic roses that I made and dried layer by layer. But then after placing them on the cake I added a few loose petals to add one more layer of fullness. I used Wiltons Fondant with some Gum Paste powder rolled in Wilton Gum Paste Mix to make sure they dried faster and more firm. I don’t love working with straight Gum Paste because the left over product always dries to hard to reuse and so it ends up wasted. It also gets too hard too fast at times when I am trying to make flexible petal shapes. I made the base of these flowers and then added the rest of the petals after I put it on the cake.
