My husband LOVES ice cream cake but it was alwasy a pain to make it and I didnt like how it looked all square and in a casserole pan. So I used my cake pans, the same size I used for the cake, lined them with saran wrap and then put in a mixture of 2 parts ice cream to 1 part cool whip. Once it was frozen I could easily lift it out and just place it on the cake. I covered the whole thing in ganache and it was AWESOME! 🙂
