Fondant works great for Toppers but when I am not using a rice crispy base I like to use Modeling Choc because it tastes SO much better. The problem with MC is that is does not dry completely like fondant so its shape can wilt. What I like to do for toppers is mix 2 parts MC with 1 part Fondant and that gives me a really nice texture paste to work with and the fondant seems to absorb some of the oil from the chocolate helping it dry and keep its shape much better. It tastes good too! To learn to make Modeling Chocolate go HERE and for my favorite Fondant recipe go HERE.
These toppers are pretty self explanatory but I made the bodies first (along with indentations for the eyes and mouth) and then attached the legs after they had had a chance to harden up (just a couple hours.)
