3 reasons to make RC Cake Toppers

June 19, 2013

Using Rice Crispy Treats as a base for cake toppers is fabulous. Here are some reasons you should try to make your own.
~They can be made days or even weeks in advance. They do not have to be refrigerated, once the fondant or Modeling Choc has hardened just wrap them or place them in an airtight container. This makes the party prep much less stressful.
~It is almost impossible to find really cute “ready made” cake decorations. Even if you found a mold, how many times would you use it? You know what your child/friend/family loves and if you ever played with play dough you can mold a cake topper. When you are starting out go simple (like this basketball cake) but soon you will find you can make figures and anything at all.
~Decorations made out of solid fondant are too HEAVY and can dent your cake (and no one would ever want to eat them.) RC toppers are very edible (especially when covered in MC) and I have been told they were more popular than any prizes given out at the party.
For the Rice Crispy recipe I use (along with Fondant and Modeling Chocolate recipes) see “Tricks of the Trade.”
