I wanted to make my lines straight on these cupcake toppers, not all squiggly like they look when I pipe them. So I used two different sizes of circle cutters to get my round lines, (cutting out first with the larger one, then just inside it with the smaller one) and a pizza cutter for the straight lines. For the cakes it worked to just cut long straight strips of fondant and place them on the cake. I made sure my cakes were cold when I did it so I could move the fondant around a little with out ... Shredding Chicken
This is my favorite cooking tip I have learned this year!! No more using forks and burning fingers to painstakingly shred my chicken up. Seriously how did I not know this before! Just put your warm chicken (bbq in this case) in your mixing bowl- use the paddle attachment and turn it on to slow. Voila! If you let it go too long it will really crumble it up so just watch it. Happy Baking! ... VIEW POST

Fondant works great for Toppers but when I am not using a rice crispy base I like to use Modeling Choc because it tastes SO much better. The problem with MC is that is does not dry completely like fondant so its shape can wilt. What I like to do for toppers is mix 2 parts MC with 1 part Fondant and that gives me a really nice texture paste to work with and the fondant seems to absorb some of the oil from the chocolate helping it dry and keep its shape much better. It tastes good too! To learn to ... VIEW POST
Zebra Wedding Cake
Another unique wedding cake! I wish I had a picture of the reception, it was so beautiful! To make this cake I used this beautiful (and yes, EASY!) Rose Frosting technique. For the center tier I used the Smooth Frosting for square cakes technique and then I just rolled out some black fondant, cut it into strips with my pizza cutter for the zebra stripes. For the finishing sparkly touch I used some rhinestone ribbon I found at Michaels. (I decorated the center tier before adding the frosting ... VIEW POST
How To Frost a Square Cake
I love frosting this way because it gives a really nice finish without fondant. Use a frosting bag (or a ziplock bag with a corner cut off) to pipe even perpendicular stripes along your chilled cake. I use a bread cutter like this one to smooth the frosting. (Found it at Target!) The corners are hard to smooth at room temp, so to get that perfect angle I chill the cake again, then use a small spatula to smooth on more frosting- because it is cold it sets right away and holds those ... Hello Kitty Cake
To make this I used a RICE CRISPY base. To make sure it was smooth I did a very thin base layer of fondant, rolling it gently with my fondant roller. This is really not a hard figure to make if you just get the basic head shape right. You can use pcp pipe or Wiltons Straws for the center. When I place a heavy topper like this on a cake I cut a piece of cardboard the size of the base, wrap it in saran wrap and then set it on top of 2-3 straws that I have cut and placed in the cake to support it. ...
