I love it when brides want un-traditional cakes! This was really fun to make. Because all my layers would be showing I baked each one with a little extra batter so I would have plenty of height to work with. I needed to be able to level them PERFECTLY (and it made for a lot of yummy scraps!) My Cake Stacking 101 post is HERE but in addition I made sure I my frosting dam went right to the edges evenly (use a frosting bag or zip lock with a corner cut off.) Once I had stacked it I used a small ... VIEW POST
Chocolate Rose Cake
This is a technique I used way before I was really good at the hard decorating stuff and it is still one of my favorite looks. It is SO FAST to do, and looks so gorgeous everytime. Go HERE for step by step instructions. For this cake I wanted to add just a little burst of color so I did the orange first to get the cascading look and then covered the rest with chocolate frosting roses. ... VIEW POST
Cats!
I wanted these cats to be flat so I cut the large circles for the heads a couple days in advance (using a toothpick to poke slanted holes for the whiskers before they were dry.) To make sure the eyes were all the same size I used a small circle cutter, cut the circle in fourths, then used 2 parts for each nose and 1 for each eye. The whiskers were one of my favorite parts of these cute cats, I made them a couple days in advance so that they would be nice and stiff, I didnt want them to ... VIEW POST
Shoe Cupcakes
I was asked to make these for a Young Women's event at my church. To make these I cut the Pirouette Cookies in half and then a slight slant on one end. I use royal icing as glue, (my favorite recipe is HERE,) placing it in these 3 spots, with the slant side of the Pirouette up. Add the next ... VIEW POST
Chocolate Muffins
My daughter made these this morning and I was thinking "ok they will be a little thick but at least they will be healthy" but they turned out SO DELICIOUS! They are light and moist, TDF. Ben
Since I keep mentioning Ben in my blog posts I thought I better give a little background. At the end of my pregnancy with Ben my Dr noticed I had excess amniotic fluid. We did ultra sounds and couldn't find anything wrong but when Ben was born it was quickly obvious that something was seriously wrong. He sounded like he was trying to cry through water. I held him for just a moment before he was taken from me because he couldn't get a good breath. Jonathan remembers hearing the R.T. counting ... VIEW POST
