We have friends whose baby boy came home from the hospital with a trach, and because my two little guys are trach kids I wanted to make sure they felt our love! These cupcakes were for them. I baked my cupcakes and chilled them until really cold so that when I cut out the center heart it would hold its shape better. I gently pressed my cookie cutter in about an inch to form the outline then used a knife to cut it out carefully. When I filled them in with frosting I started at the top of the ... VIEW POST
Eagle Cake
Another Eagle Scout Cake and another fun idea! I used Rice Crispy for the base as usual. With a leaf shaped cutter I made my "feathers" a couple days ahead so they would dry and hold their curve. I layered the feathers bottom to top, covering the RC in fondant first helps so it looks more solid in color. I used strips of fondant for the base and for the top layer covered the whole thing in red fondant. Big Crazy Eagle Head! The Scouts had fun "sharing" it afterwards. (Yes one of ... VIEW POST
Cake Balls
The nice thing about cake balls is that they are much easier and faster than cake pops. And they are so cute! When I make cake balls I use the three steps shown in the photo above. I roll the pop, use a cake pop stick to dip the pop and set it on wax paper, then I pull the stick out and use a clean one to swirl a little more chocolate over the top. Voila! Make sure to add your decorations before the chocolate dries. Putting them in mini cupcake wrappers is perfect. (To make sure you have the ... VIEW POST
Paint Splatter Cake
Be prepared for mess but these cakes are really fun to make. The first step is to use the Smooth Frosting technique and then chill your cake. I love this recipe HERE for Royal Icing, once I had it whipped up I put 1/2 cup of Icing in 6 different bowl. As I added the color (gel paste) I added a few drops of water at a time until it would drip down from the brush slowly & smoothly, like the actual texture of paint! I covered as much of my counter as I could with plastic and made sure I had ... VIEW POST
Cake Charts
I am always telling customers to google cake charts so they can get an idea of how their cakes will slice up so here is my favorite site to check out, Blue Sheep Bake Shop. Keep in mind to get the full amount of slices that they show you have to have a steady hand so I tell people to estimate somewhere between party and wedding size numbers. Happy Baking! ... VIEW POST
Ombre Rose- 1 bowl
The ombre cake is one of my most requested- its so fun in any color. But I always ended up with a lot of left over frosting tinted in various shades. So I started doing it a new way. Here is the basic "how to" for the ROSE Technique. To get ready I do my crumb coat and refrigerate my cake until its nice and chilled. Then I pull out ONE bowl, add some frosting and start tinting. This first color is the darkest, and it's also how you can determine how much frosting you need for each shade. ... VIEW POST
