I just had a crazy week of cake making which means I am sick of TV. When the kids are gone I watch/listen to shows while I work- DVR, Netflix, right now I am catching up on Downton Abby on Amazon Prime, (yes my brain IS part mush.) So today I just wanted to listen to some music while I cleaned. I found a CD in our music library that I used to listen to 7 (almost 8!!!) years ago while driving back and forth to UCDavis when Ben was a new baby. It was "Day Of Praise", a CD by Hillary Weeks, one of ... VIEW POST
How to make Chocolate Curls
I used a Hershey bar and found that it had to be room temp to get the chocolate to curl, when it was cold it just flaked. Since I didn't have enough chocolate bars on hand I melted some semi-sweet choc chips into a "bar" but found that it had to be cold to get the curls, when it was room temp it was just too soft. I folded a long piece of tin foil over my cutting board and onto a cookie sheet so that the curls would fall onto it, using a regular veggie peeler to slowly shave the chocolate. Be ... VIEW POST
Variety Rose Cupcakes
This theme is one of my favorites. It is so pretty and easy to do with a little practice. Its not meant to be perfect, in fact that is what I love about it! See "Tricks of the Trade" of go HERE for instructions on How to Make Rose Cakes (and cupcakes!) You dont have to add the green fondant leaves but its a nice touch- let them dry completely before you place them. Happy Baking! ... VIEW POST
Fondant Flowers
To make the center of my fondant flowers I start with 2 center flowers- I dried these in a TBL and Tsp. Once they were dried I used gumpaste powder mixed with a little water as glue and started adding one layer at a time, letting it dry in between additions on a "bed" of saran wrap for support. I used a popsicle stick inserted in the cake for additional support. My Cascading Wedding Cake has more details as well. Email me with any specific questions! Happy Baking! ... VIEW POST
Pops- start to finish
Cake Pops really are the best treat because it is obvious that a lot of effort and time goes into them. They are also fabulous because they are delicious and you can make each one unique. Because making cake pops can be such a love/hate experience and many of you have tried to make pops that ended up....plops, I have plenty of trouble shooting posts that range from Prepping, Dipping, and storing your pops (and great decorating ideas!) under the "Cake Pops" category on the left (as well as many ... Snowflake Cake
The photo doesn't do it justice, but this cake was so sparkly and beautiful! I used this smooth frosting technique to start with. Then for the snowflakes it was fun and simple. I used Wiltons melts, wax paper, sparkling sanding sugar and that's it! I placed wax paper on a cutting board, piped the lines, (it doesn't have to be perfect) and then gently tapped the board to smooth it out. I then totally covered it with sanding sugar, let it dry and then tapped the sugar off. Gently peel ... VIEW POST
