Isn't this gorgeous! Yes I'm tooting my own horn but only because I am a self taught baker and I KNOW anyone can do this. Here is what the cake looked like right before the flowers were put on.... To help anyone who has a desire to do this I am linking several posts here- please email me with specific questions! How to Stack How to frost a Rustic Cake Fresh Flowers on Cakes ... VIEW POST

Ganache Cake

June 22, 2015

Here is my favorite ganache recipe: 1 cup heavy whipping cream 3/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips 2 TBL unsalted butter Place the chocolate chips in a bowl then warm 1 cup heavy whipping cream and 2 tbl butter until you start to see little bubbles on the edges but not to a full boil. You can do this on the stove or in the microwave in increments of 45 seconds, stirring in between. Pour the warm cream over the chocolate chips and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then stir until the chocolate is ... VIEW POST

Shopping Day Cake

May 30, 2015

A shopping day cake- this was a fun theme! The birthday party was at the mall where the girls went around to different stores getting specific items. Super cute! The nail polish bottles were marshmallows with 2 layers of Fondant to get the shape and then used a toothpick to hold the top on. For the Justice bag I made the base out of Rice Crispy and let it sit over night to firm up. I covered it with one layer of fondant to smooth it out, then applied a second layer for the outside of the ... VIEW POST

Rustic Frosting (and stacking!)

May 13, 2015

The messy frosting (or Spackled as I like to call it) takes more than just slathering on frosting. Without a good base your cake will end up uneven. When I use this technique I start out with a smooth frosted base (go HERE for the tutorial) this is more than a crumb coat, you need to really even out your cake. Once it is frosted and chilled I take out the layers one at a time starting with the base. That way they remain chilled and firm as I spackle on more frosting! I just pipe simple ... VIEW POST

Quilting for Cheaters :)

May 13, 2015

It's not really cheating- just finding a better way! I love the quilted look but when I have done it in the past its a little stressful- having to mark and measure and get it EXACTLY even takes so much time, and once I have my cake covered in fondant, the LAST thing I want to do is start over when I mis-mark it. So I started using a plain ol square cutter- it works so well! You can see in the photo above how I just start layering the squares in. When I get to the top I have to cut the ... VIEW POST

Easy Decorating

May 5, 2015

These cakes were all for the same party- so I wanted them to look different, but not be too demanding of my time. For the Rose Technique go HERE for my photo tutorial. For the.... I guess I'll call it "Puffy Frosting" technique go HERE. :) The next technique is a little time consuming but easy. Simply pipe fat dots in a line down the side of the cake, take a small spatula and simply spread each dot- starting in the center and pressing gently. The corner of a square cake is a ... VIEW POST
