To give The Cat his furry appearance I covered a rice crispy base figure in Fondant and used scissors held at an upward angle to snip little v shapes. It is important to let the head dry separately from the body so that the weight doesn't start to squish the body down. I use cake pops sticks as supports (Popsicle sticks are great too.) To make the stencils I used a regular projector to put the picture I was using from the book on the wall, taped a piece of wax paper to the wall and then held ... VIEW POST
Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes
This is one of my most requested Holiday Flavors- I love it so much because it is filled with the spices that make me feel like Fall and the holidays are really here! My secret to a moist cake is the added banana (and I love the added kick of a little spice cake although the recipe doesn't require it- delicious either way!) 3/4 cup oil 1 stick (1/4 cup) softened butter 1 cup sugar 1 cup brown sugar mix until creamy then add- 3 eggs 1 mashed banana 1 1/2 cup pumpkin mix until ... Super Hero Cake
I used homemade fondant for all the decorating here (recipe under "Tricks of the Trade") except for the red and black, for those two colors I used Duff brand because it has really nice stretch and those colors are so hard to make! I had little experience with covering cakes in fondant so I just went for it, luckily there was something covering the base of each tier to hide my errors :). I didn't have an exact idea of how the Spider Man tier would turn out, I just started with the eyes and ... VIEW POST
Ninjago Cake!
I made the figure out of rice crispy treats and fondant. When I need the figure to be able to stand on its own I add gum paste powder or meringue powder to the rice crispy treats as I roll them, helps harden the treats and leave them edible. For the exact RC recipe go HERE and for a great Fondant tutorial go HERE. ... VIEW POST
LaLaLoopsy Cake!
It is not hard to be your own decorator! This cake was a 10", I rounded down just one side of the cake since the rest was under the hair. Around the "face" I stacked alternating narrow slices of rice crispy stacks and cake which were support for the hair. To make the hair I rolled rice crispy treats to the length I wanted and then covered them in fondant. Once I had placed the bigger hair strands around the face I filled in where needed with fondant rolls until I had as much "hair" as I needed. ... VIEW POST
Sesame Street! (elmo, supergrover and cookie)
This was a cake for my son Ty, he turned 3 and was obsessed with Sesame Street. I had been wanting to make a really fun "Elmo and friends" cake so this was perfect timing. As I made the cake and started adding the characters and the decorations Ty became very particular about what should be on his cake. Starting with the placement (Super Grover had to be on top!) to the amount of triangles that needed to be on it. I tried putting thicker fondant and clipping it with scissors like I have in ...
