To make this cake I used actual tools to get the right shape and size of my fondant decorations. I wiped them down and then placed saran wrap over the fondant before making my impressions. Then I just cut around the indentations. I think my favorite part is the little needle nose pliers. To get the silver look I used Duff edible silver spray- it's my favorite for metal colors. ... Super Eagle!
This was so fun. The inspiration came from this cartoon and I thought it was the cutest idea! To make the superman layer I ripped the fondant and then gently started pressing red fondant along the edges. For the badges across the front I printed up the ones I wanted and laminated them before placing them on the sash. For more Eagle Cake ideas go HERE ... VIEW POST
Swiss Meringue Frosting & Filling
This is HEAVEN. Not even joking. When I first tried it I thought "THIS is what I always wished the inside of a twinkie tasted like!" It's light and fluffy- people ask me if there's whipped cream in it. It pipes out beautifully too- the butter makes it so silky. The nice thing about swiss meringue is that it's not too sweet so it's the perfect pairing with everything- fresh strawberries, caramel, really anything. This is the recipe that made me think I should start a cupcake ... VIEW POST
Swirlishious
This combines a few techniques- Smooth Frosting, Cake Stacking, and the perfect Royal Icing. Then the fun part is the SWIRLING! I love it. I do a bunch of ideas on a sheet of wax paper so that I can refer to it as I go. What is nice is that even beginners can do it- there is no exact design you have to follow. I always make sure my cake is nice and cold when I start so that if I make a mistake it will harden quickly and I can pull it off. I like to make some practice designs on a piece of ... VIEW POST

I wrapped each stem in Sarah Wrap before inserting it into the cake. But then I talked to a real florist and found that she always just inserted her flowers directly into the cake- no wrapping. (You do want to make sure you are using "edible" flowers, and not wrapping the stems allows the cake to absorb a little flower flavor- but I've never had a complaint.) I ... VIEW POST
